At our core, Ingalls is a company that strives to be helpful to our clients while continuously innovating and evolving our technology and solutions. Since 2010, we have been dedicated to building a team and product that can stay steps ahead of threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities in an ever-changing landscape.
Ingalls' SOC Internship Program serves as a springboard for passionate individuals seeking to dive into the world of cybersecurity. Our program provides aspiring professionals and students with practical training and invaluable resources, equipping them with the necessary tools to establish a promising career in the field.
Finding hands-on opportunities to learn about cybersecurity can be tough, and there isn’t one set path into this field. The industry needs organizations that are willing and able to train and equip the next generation of cybersecurity leaders, in order to secure our organizations, businesses, and nation — and that's where Ingalls comes in. We see the cybersecurity skills gap as an opportunity and are eager to be an on-ramp for those who want to learn and find a pathway into the constantly evolving, thrilling world of online security.
Our internship program follows a "Crawl-Walk-Run" approach to guarantee success. Through a hands-on and structured methodology, interns can gain invaluable experience as a cybersecurity analyst while enhancing their knowledge in a positive environment. This prepares them for a career in cybersecurity.
To start, each intern will have a learning path to reinforce core concepts in networking and security, while shadowing full-time analysts through their investigations.
As the learning path becomes more in depth, interns will be able to do investigations and write up tickets with direct supervision from a full-time analyst (reverse shadow).
In this phase, interns are assigned cases to work on their own that will be reviewed on a higher level without a shadow. Interns are also introduced to additional activities that take place in the SOC.
Our internship program was designed to pave the way for those who have been accumulating knowledge but may be lacking the technical experience or guidance needed in the cybersecurity field. Our program offers a stimulating and fulfilling environment, where hands-on learning can grant an advantage in future interviews and cultivate productive and captivating networking with other professionals. While securing a position with us is not a guarantee, we have seen exceptional results with this approach, as a number of our former interns have been welcomed into the Ingalls family after completing their internship.
Ingalls is a company that strives to be helpful to our clients while continuously innovating and evolving our technology and solutions. Culture is incredibly important in any organization. These values represent ours.
Our team is innately drawn toward problems, not avoidance. Each of us finds ways to be helpful to our team, customers, & community. Our service is as valuable as it is helpful.
Our industry demands constant growth and innovation, and we apply this approach to all aspects of our business.
Our ability to withstand adversity and accomplish objectives while maintaining professionalism is critical to successful crisis management and risk avoidance.
At the end of the internship cohort, all interns give a feedback interview about their experience in the program, key learnings, and what's next in their career. Read the Intern Yearbook to learn more about the program directly from the interns.
Being able to be part of this internship has allowed me to have a better understanding of what cybersecurity is and the requirements it takes to be able to work within the field. It has helped me better understand what learning paths to take and the skills I need to develop in order to be effective and efficient within cybersecurity.
This internship has painted a clear picture for me of what I will be doing in the cybersecurity field, as well as what I need to do in order to succeed in terms of achieving both personal and a company's goals. This internship has also affirmed that I have made the correct career choice.
When I first started my internship, I did not really know anything about a SOC more than it existed and why. Now I feel that I have a better understanding of what SOC is and how it operates, as well as how the defensive side of cybersecurity works on an internal level rather than only knowing by reading a book. Here I was able to gain priceless hands-on experience.
I have learned to be a student and a teacher at the same time. All analysts have different information to offer each other and it is awesome to be able to offer and receive knowledge on a daily basis.
The internship application includes basic qualifying questions to help our team screen applicants and select candidates for Phase II.
The Ingalls SOC Leadership Team will review the Skill Assessments and select candidates for Phase III.
After a virtual interview is completed, the internship panel and the Ingalls SOC Leadership Team will choose interns as well as intern alternates for the selected cohort.
